What is the best roofing paint we recommend?
Roof Buddies have been in business since 2011 and we are still going strong! One of the main reasons for this is that we are meticulous regarding the quality of roofing paint and materials we use. Our golden rule is that the roofing material MUST have a guarantee of over ten years.
Why should you ask? We have discovered that the cheaper the products, the shorter the lifespan. To go for the cheaper selection almost always results in disaster, inferior finishes, and escalated costs to fix the problem.
What is also very important when selecting roofing products, and in particular roofing paint, is to remember the roof painting process and select the products according to the different stages. Let me explain. To paint a roof consists of different stages which contribute to the project outcome.
Roof painting stages
- Preparation where the roof is repaired by replacing roof sheets, broken tiles, filling cracks in slabs etc.
- Removal of old waterproofing systems.
- Cleaning the roof surfaces by washing with a low-pressure water source.
- Waterproofing the roof surface.
- Apply primer paint to the roof surface.
- Applying two topcoats of superior quality roofing paint.
From the above, it would be straightforward to choose the materials for the roof painting project. One would also quickly discover that it is not a simple and cheap exercise to paint a roof. That is if one wants to create a fabulous-looking roof that would last for another ten-plus years.
At Roof Buddies we use different quality products concerning the different stages. For stages 4 to 6 we use a generic all-in-one EDPM paint rubber emulsion. This emulsion is versatile in the sense that it creates a stretchable waterproof barrier that also strengthens the roof surface and serves as a final coat of paint.
The EDPM roof paint rubber is available in many standard roof colours (check out our colour chart). By combining the products into one general product, we save costs for the customer. When providing quotations, we also consult with the customer and present them with a quotation where we use the EDPM paint rubber as the final coat or where we use a combination of rubber paint and branded colours from suppliers such as Dulux or Plascon.
What if I do not prefer the standard roof paint colours of EDPM roof paint rubber?
This is not a problem. Roof Buddies provides our customers with a roof tinting service so that the rubber paint can be tinted to a specific colour. Many customers relate to specific roof paint colours Dulux or Plascon offers.
When a quotation is presented where we use these paints it comes out to be more expensive than when we use the all-in-one EDPM roof paint rubber. This is where the option to tint the rubber paint comes in very useful.
With this choice of options, we are then able to provide the customer with the exact colour they require for the roof finish at a cheaper cost than using the branded paints. Now what about the warranty you may ask. The warranty will still be ten years irrespective of the roof paint we use.
Roof painting process when specific branded roof paint colours are chosen
Roof Buddies follows the same process as described above except that we differentiate the products we use. We will waterproof and apply a primer to the roof surface which consists of our EDPM paint rubber emulsion. Finally, we will apply the two topcoats of roof paint which consists of either the branded paint or the all-in-one versatile EDPM roof paint rubber.
The roofing paint of choice
According to all previous roof painting projects we determined that the main deciding factors of the choice of roofing paint are the cost and the guarantee. Considering these factors, we comfortably recommend that the roof be painted with EDPM roof paint rubber emulsion. This option provides a quality long-lasting roof finish at an affordable price.
