Roof Buddies have been in the roofing business for more than 13 years. During this time, we have tested the quality and versatility of many roof paints against the extreme South African elements. This enabled us to develop our own superior-quality roof paint rubber emulsion we currently use.

This paint is called EDPM rubber emulsion and is a monolithic, fully adhered all-in-one fluid-applied rubber roofing membrane and paint. It is quite a mouthful, but these attributes are essential when you talk about quality and cost-saving roof paints.

The elastic properties of our products allow fantastic stretching and returning to the original shape, without damage (up to 3 000%). This property effectively encapsulates the roof surface it is applied to, preserving whatever is underneath and protecting it from corrosion. Our roof paint has a thickness between 0.075 mm and more than 1 mm, depending on the application.

This has the result that it becomes the top layer that serves as a composite highly flexible roof membrane that waterproofs and supports the underlying roof structure. Another fantastic attribute of our EDPM rubber roof products is that they also superbly reflects the impact of sunlight; Both infrared and ultraviolet (UV), rain, hail, and possible physical damage.

Our roof paint has the following benefits:

• It forms a seamless barrier against the elements. When the application is done correctly, it solves roof leaks on almost any type of roof. Yes, we apply it not only as a roof paint but also as a waterproofing solution that lasts for at least ten years!
• It effectively extends the useful life of nearly every roof substrate coated. Laboratory estimates show extended lives of about 25 years to roof structures.
• It also effectively keeps the roof surface and inside of the building cool and provides a level of protection from the sun and weather. Field studies have shown that our white roof paint rubber can lower rooftop temperatures from 79 °C to 26 °C (a 53 °C reduction). This reduction was achieved using our white roof rubber coating on a metal roof.

These benefits are substantial as they result in reduced electricity bills and reduced maintenance activities. Air conditioning units don’t have to work that hard because of cooler room temperatures which is eco- and pocket friendly.

No limitations or risks with our roof paint

Most flat roofs (metal or concrete) are not perfectly sloped. This creates many headaches for property owners, causing water to puddle in some areas. These puddles lead to unsolved roof leaks and excessive roof structure damage in the end. Many roof coatings are not rated or warranted for “ponding water”. The application of these products fails prematurely if exposed to standing water over long periods.

The primary purposes of quality roof paints are:

• Restoration of old roofs to extend the service life and waterproofing capability of the roof
• Reflectivity to create a “cool roof”, and
• Toughness to provide a wearing surface on the roof that can resist abrasion from foot traffic or other physical damage, such as from hail.
